چکیده

We present a comprehensive analysis of the shape dark matter (DM) halos in sample 25 Milky Way-like galaxies TNG50 simulation. Using an Enclosed Volume Iterative Method (EVIM), we infer oblate-to-triaxial for DM halo with median $T \simeq 0.24 $. group 3 different categories. Dust Formation in Milky Way-like Galaxies

We introduce a dust model for cosmological simulations implemented in the movingmesh code arepo and present a suite of cosmological hydrodynamical zoom-in simulations to study dust formation within galactic haloes. Our model accounts for the stellar production of dust, accretion of gas-phase metals onto existing grains, destruction of dust through local supernova activity, and dust driven by wi...

Are Great Disks Defined by Satellite Galaxies in Milky-Way Type Halos Rare in ΛCDM?

We study the spatial distribution of satellite galaxies by assuming that they follow the dark matter distribution. This assumption is supported by semi-analytical studies based on high-resolution numerical simulations. We find that for a Milky-Way type halo, if only a dozen satellite galaxies are observed, then they can lie on a “great” disk with an rms height of about 40 kpc. The normal to the...

Statistics of Satellite Galaxies around Milky Way-like Hosts

We calculate the probability that a Milky-Way-like halo in the standard cosmological model has the observed number of Magellanic Clouds (MCs). The statistics of the number of MCs in the ΛCDM model are in good agreement with observations of a large sample of SDSS galaxies. Under the sub-halo abundance matching assumption of a relationship with small scatter between galaxy r-band luminosities and...

Grand challenges in Milky Way and galaxies

Extragalactic astronomy is a relatively young science. Its birth may be set at the time of the " great debate " between Harlow Shapley and Heber Curtis on the extragalactic nature of the nebulae (which culminated with a meeting of the two protagonists in April 1920) or, with a more conservative stance, a few years later at the time of Edwin Hubble's discovery of Cepheid variables in Messier 31,...

Modeling the Milky-Way Satellite galaxies

We revisit the Milky Way satellite problem using a semi-analytical model of galaxy formation and compare the predicted luminosity function to recent result from the SDSS. With cosmic photoionization, the luminosity function can be brought into broad agreement with the data between −15 < MV < −2. This improvement over previous semi-analytical model results (e.g., Benson et al. 2002) is from our ...
